ONE IN THE OVEN

I have one in the oven.
You don't have to check
Because I know I'm with child.
I have several children
Walking around in
The streets that I talk to when
I meet up with them.  I have
About eighteen of them, but
I stopped counting when
The seventh child came to be.

I had to give them all up
As there are people
Who don't feel I'm capable
Of caring for them.
As long as I take my meds
I won't kill a soul.
I promise you on my first
Child's soul, this is the truth.

PINK HEELS

I threw all my clothes away
including my socks and underwear.
When the police arrived all
I had on were my mother's pink shoes.

They threw me into the squad car
kicking and screaming profanities.
I lost one heel and then the other
trying to kick out the windows of

the squad car.  Like a revolving
door I was back in the hospital.
It was the third hospitalization
in two months.  No medications

could stop the voices in my head.
I told the doctor to tell my mother
I would buy her new shoes once
I was well and that I was sorry.

SOMETHING ALWAYS GETS IN THE WAY

I have wished for better days.
I want to be a good person.
Something always gets in the way.

I have tried to quit cold turkey.
I can't stop the craving for
These things I put inside my body.

I want to call the dealer and
Tell him that I don't want anymore.
But when he comes over he talks me

Into the latest high and these
Visions and voices I hear
Also encourage me to get blunted.

I have broken hearts at home.
I have to take the right pills.
Something always gets in the way.
